Day 327: Back Home to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai(ny) Days
After a vacation, it’s not uncommon to want that holiday from the holiday. It became clear post-China that the “holiday” was really a simple desire to return home to a place familiar and grounding. That place was Thailand, of course.
First place to come to mind, first place I’ve returned to for a second time on this trip. I thought I’d give my camera a vacation from tourist subject matter, and find joy in the mundane. The mundane-ness of everyday living and being is a marvelous feeling, and one that I missed after a month of being away.
A reunion with Wylie in Chiang Mai, followed by a short trip up to Chiang Rai which can be summed up in three experiences – a rainy motorbike trip-visa run to Myanmar which gave me a deep appreciation for face masks, a cat café first (um....AMAZING), and long overdue visit to the White Temple – and finally, the grand finale of coming down with the flu almost immediately mid-Thai massage made for a uniquely adventurous and strange segue into the 10-day silent retreat to follow.
You might notice I have one too many photos of cats, and Wylie. To be expected after a month of certain withdrawals of favorite things?
But, of course.
